‘Twas the Night Before You Turn Two

My Sweet Little One–

While laying down with you this evening, I listened to your breath slowly steady and gently rubbed my nose against your baby soft hair. These are moments nobody can ever take away from me. Laying in bed with you while I pray over you and, in your cute little voice, I hear “Amen” as I close out my prayer in which I thank God for you every single day. You have truly been a blessing to me. Every single moment I have gotten to share with you has truly been a blessing.

Now, I won’t be one of those parents that ever calls you perfect, because you aren’t. None of us are. That is why I love you so much though. I love that you are absolutely wild and truly my tiny tornado who never slows down. I love that you will fight me practically every meal to not eat your vegetables. I love that you pick up dog poop just to say, “Mama, look!”, with one of the most ornery grins I’ve ever seen. I love the way you scream every single time we wash your hair because you hate the water in your eyes. I love all these things about you because this is how God created you!

This last year has been full of adventures for us. From you learning to walk at 14 months old to experiencing new places together, I will forever cherish each and every memory we’ve shared. I will never forget you running into our bedroom at 1 o’clock in the morning with oven mitts on your hands and the most excited, outrageously silly smile on your face. I will never forget the way you run to the door and yell “FRIENDS!” anytime a friend or sweet cousin is coming to play. I will never forget when you pulled the flap of your beanie down over your eyes so you could run around the backyard saying, “I can’t see! I can’t see”, all for you to run into the backyard fence (which you never cried about, but actually started laughing). I will never forget the snuggles you require before every nap and bedtime. I will never forget the first time you said, “I wuff you, too!”, without any prompting or me saying it first. You truly melted your mama’s heart! All these little moments are engraved in my mind.

Watching you learn and grow this last year has truly been a privilege of mine. You are so amazing to me! Witnessing the transformation of being 100% adamant that you would not go to the church nursery without your daddy or I, to confidently striding in like you own the place has been spectacular. Your imagination has truly taken off! I love every time you randomly tell me, “Mama, shh, bears outside!”, as you hunker down and tiptoe to the window. Listening to all the animals and animal sounds you know always surprises me. I love listening to you attempt to name colors and count, even when it typically goes something like, “One…two…five…seven…night”. Your mind has truly blossomed this year. I can’t wait to see how much changes in the next year!

All of this to say, I love you. You will forever be my little boy. That will never change. I just pray that you continue to always be curious, confident, and loving. I pray that you continue to ask me about “baby Jesus” so that I can continue encouraging your relationship with God because I know you will one day be a mountain mover. I know He has some amazing plans for your life and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish with everything God gifts you. So, baby boy, here is to another year! Another year that I get to watch you flourish and grow into an even bigger boy. I love you!

So until next time,

Mama aka Okie Mom
