Listen for Him

Just the other day I was having a conversation with my husband, and then later, a close friend, about how here recently I have started understanding what it means to really hear from God.  My husband and I are in a phase in our lives where there are a lot of unknowns.  We weren’t sure about if we were going to be moving and where our careers were going to take us.  We both prayed and prayed that He would lay the directions we needed to take on our hearts.  Though it is never in our own time, He always seems to answer our prayers.  We just have to be patient!

The very night I had talked about this with Colby and had a long text conversation with my close friend, I read Becky Thompson’s Truth Unchanging.  The fourteenth chapter, “Let Me Show You:  God Speaks to Joseph Through Dreams”, truly spoke to these very conversations.  (It is always funny to me how when there is something on your mind, God has a way of sneaking something in that says, “Hey, I hear you, and I know what you are saying.”  He never ceases to amaze me!)  In this chapter, Thompson writes:

“As parents, we are limited in the ways we can share our hearts with our children.  We are limited by our own strengths and weaknesses.  But God is not limited.  He knows exactly how to communicate with our hearts so that we receive what He is saying.  And He speaks to us in individual ways.”

God is always talking to us.  Some of us, like myself, are just a little more hardheaded, and struggle to hear or see his guidance.  He is giving it though!  He knows what we need before we even need it.  Isn’t that amazing?!

If you haven’t checked it out already, you should look into Becky Thompson’s Truth Unchanging.  There are 75 bite size devotionals for busy mommas.  Each devotion is designed to be read in 5 minutes or less.  Amazing!  In case you missed my previous post, Truth Unchanging, I was selected to be apart of her launch team, so I have one of the uncorrected proofs of the book.  I have already pre-ordered my own copy of the book because I’m such a firm supporter of the book!  They are coming out April 16, 2019!  I also read another book of Thompson’s, Hope Unfolding, which I also wrote about.
